However I rarely made them because they were a bunch of work.
So I set out to figure something out for old trusty (My old as dirt bread machine) that was very, very tasty.
These glazed donuts have become a family favorite.
Basically the hardest part about this recipe is the waiting, the actual work is minimal.
Glazed Donuts
Serves 8
6 3/4 ounces flour
1/2 cup water
4 ounces yeast
2 Tablespoons sugar
2 1/2 Tablespoons melted butter
1 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 beaten egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
Prepare a baking sheet by sprinkling it with flour, or line a baking sheet with a silpat and set aside. In a bread machine, add water, butter, egg, half the flour, salt, the rest of the flour, sugar and yeast. Set it for dough cycle.
The dough will be a bit loose or sticky, no worries. Flour your board lightly, your hands, and your rolling pin and then turn dough out onto your board. Sprinkle some flour on your dough and roll it out to 1/4 inch thickness.
Cut out donuts with donut cutter and place on prepared baking sheet. Cover with a clean tea towel and let rise for 2 hours or until doubled in size.
Preheat large non stick pot to 390 degrees, add 2 or 3 donuts at a time and flip after 15-30 seconds, chop sticks work great for this, remove donuts to a cooling rack and let cool before dipping into glaze.
Glaze
2 Tablespoons melted butter
1 cup powdered sugar
3/4 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 Tablespoons whole milk
Put all ingredients in a medium bowl and whisk until smooth. You can also use an electric hand mixer. Enjoy.
Peace,
CK
