| Monte Cristo 1 sandwich 2 slices white bread 1 egg 3 ounces cooked ham 2 ounces quality Swiss cheese or gruyere 1 Tablespoon butter ½ Tablespoon vegetable oil ½ Tablespoon yellow mustard ½ Tablespoon mayonnaise 1 teaspoon heavy whipping cream 1/8 teaspoons salt 1/8 teaspoon black pepper Optional powdered sugar cherry preserves Spread mayonnaise on one side of bread, add ham. On other piece of bread of spread on mustard. Add Swiss cheese. Close sandwich and set aside. In a small bowl mix heavy whipping cream and egg. In a frying pan over medium low heat add vegetable oil and butter. Once the butter is melted dip both sides of sandwich in egg and cream mixture. Add to pan. Brown both sides of sandwich. Remove from pan, slice sandwich in half. Sprinkle with powered sugar if desired. And serve with cherry or raspberry preserve if you want. |
