difference between a crisp and pieA crisp and a pie are both types of baked desserts, but they differ in several ways. A crisp typically consists of a fruit filling topped with a crumbly mixture of flour, sugar, and butter. The topping is often made with rolled oats or chopped nuts and is baked until it is crispy and golden brown. The filling is usually sweetened with sugar and may be thickened with cornstarch or flour to help it hold its shape. A pie, on the other hand, typically consists of a pastry crust filled with sweet or savory ingredients. The filling can be made with a variety of ingredients, including fruit, custard, cream, or meat and vegetables. The crust is usually made with flour, butter, and water and can be either a single crust or a double crust, which covers the top of the pie as well. One key difference between a crisp and a pie is the type of crust used. A crisp does not have a crust on the bottom, while a pie has a crust on both the bottom and top. Additionally, the topping of a crisp is typically crumbly and does not form a solid crust like the pastry crust of a pie. In terms of texture, a crisp is often crunchy on top and soft and juicy on the bottom, while a pie has a firmer texture throughout. Overall, while both desserts are baked and contain fruit as a common ingredient, the main differences lie in their crusts and textures. | Apple Crisp Serves 6 4 large apples, peeled and diced 1 cup flour 1 cup packed light brown sugar 1 cup or room temperature butter ¾ cup rolled oats ½ cup sugar ½ cup water 1 Tablespoon Corn Starch 1 teaspoon vanilla extract ½ teaspoon cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon salt Preheat oven to 350 Grease a 8x8 baking dish with a light coat of vegetable oil.
