They are so simple to make and fill with your favorite filling. If you have kids you will be anointed a rock star after you serve these guys up.
You can definitely get creative with these. I like to keep it simple with cherry all fruit, or as you’ll see below blackberry.
Homemade Toaster Strudel
Makes 8 pastries
For pastry
2 Puff Pastry Sheets
16 t blackberry jam (or jam of choice) 2 t per pastry
For frosting
½ cup powdered sugar
2 t whole milk
½ T blackberry jam (or jam of choice)
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Line a baking sheet with parchment or silpat.
Put a sheet of thawed unfolded puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface. Cut the dough twice, leaving you with four equal squares.
You will end up with four pieces. Add 2 t blackberry (or jam of your choice) on one side of your squares leaving room around the edges.
Fold over the other side of the dough over and use a folk to crimp closed the edges. Cut a couple of slits in each pasty. Put on prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart and bake for 15-20 minutes.
You’re looking for golden brown. Ovens vary so check often. Repeat with other sheet. For frosting combine 1 cup of powdered sugar, ½ of blackberry jam, and 2 Tablespoons of whole milk in a bowl and whisk until smooth. Enjoy.
CK TIP
To freeze, let cool completely on a cooling rack, line on baking sheet and freeze, once frozen remove from baking sheet into a good freezer bag and freeze up to 1 month. Do not frost. Make frosting on the day your going to reheat them.
Peace,
