By Chef Kendra Nguyen 12 to 15 donut balls Donuts 1 cup all-purpose flour ¼ cup orange juice ¼ cup sugar 1 Tablespoon butter, melted ¼ teaspoon grated orange zest 1 large egg 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/8 teaspoon salt Oil for frying Orange Sugar ¼ cup sugar 1 1/4 teaspoon grated orange zest Set up a cooling rack for the donut coming out of the hot oil. Orange sugar Directions Toss sugar and orange zest in a small food processor until well blended. Place in bowl and set aside. Donut Directions In a medium bowl add salt, baking powder and flour and whisk well. In another bowl add egg, sugar, and zest and whisk well. Pour orange just into the egg, sugar and zest mixture and whisk until combined. Mix in flour mixture just until well combined. Add 3 inches of oil to a medium pot over 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Using a Tablespoon measure drop 3 or 4 ball into hot oil. Move around the donuts while cooking to fry evenly with a slotted spoon. When the donuts are crispy, and amber brown remove to prepared cooling rack with slotted spoon. Bring oil back up to 350 degrees and fry another batch. Let each batch of donuts rest for 5 minutes before adding them to the orange sugar. Add each donut to the orange sugar mixture and coat well. Serve right away. |
